How to choose the right green mussel powder?


  • The green mussel powder must imperatively come from New Zealand. This is the first guarantee of quality.

  • Green mussel powder is actually an extract of green mussels. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of mussels to get a proper concentration of extract. The indicated concentration must correspond to at least 3000 mg of fresh mussels.

  • If the dosage indicated on the powder you buy, requires giving a large amount of powder or capsules, the concentration is usually quite low.

How much to give?

It all depends on the product you bought and the indication on the packaging.

But in general, it should correspond to more or less of these dosages:


  • Cats: 0,001Lbs / day for maintenance - Double for therapy - Divided into 2 doses

  • Dog 11Lbs: 0,0008 to 0,0035Lbs / day in maintenance - Double in therapy - Divided into 2 doses

  • Dog 22Lbs: 0,0017 to 0,007Lbs / day for maintenance - max 0,014Lbs for therapy - Divided into 2 doses

  • Dog 44Lbs: 0,0036 to 0,014Lbs / day in maintenance - max 0,029Lbs in therapy - Divided into 2 doses

  • Dog 66Lbs: 0,0036 to 0,021Lbs / day for maintenance - max 0,039Lbs for therapy - Divided into 2 doses

  • Dog 88Lbs and +: 0,0070 to 0,028Lbs / day in maintenance - max 0,056Lbs in therapy - Divided into 2 doses

Always start with low doses and divide them into 2 doses (morning / evening) to see how your dog is reacting. In general, green mussel extract is very well tolerated, except for shellfish allergies.

As with any treatment, choose cures with 1 week to 15 days off at times.
